Some flowers need a little extra time to reach their full potential. Ideally these flowers are started mid winter, approximately 8-12 weeks ahead of your last spring frost. Getting them started indoors allows them to reach maturity during our shorter growing seasons.
We’ve always prioritized growing our own food, but right now we’re feeling particularly excited about flowers! To help us all succeed in our flower gardens we’ve created a Flower Seed Starting Guide.
We've created a Seeding & Transplanting Chart that includes all our vegetable varieties, along with information on all of their requirements - when and if to start transplants, when to direct sow, how to space or thin plants, etc.
You can reference this handy chart while planning your Spring planting.
When the ground freezes in Winter, you may be left wondering what to do with the tree seeds you haven't yet planted.
Luckily, there's a simple way to replicate nature's cold snap for your tree seeds indoors, through cold stratification in your refrigerator!
Cold Stratification is a period of cold which a seed must go through to signal that Winter cold has passed, Spring has come and it's time to wake up and grow.
Here are the basic steps for fridge stratification, a troubleshooting guide to most common issues, and a few tips for successful tree seed storage and germination!
