(Hamamelis virginiana) Deciduous. Zones 4-8.
Witch Hazel is a lovely native tree, found mostly on the edges of forests, throughout Eastern North America.
Witch Hazel has a long history of use in dowsing, finding underground sources of water or earthly leylines. It is also a very strong medicinal plant whose astringency is helpful in drawing out toxins and for use as a styptic (something that will slow or stop bleeding.)
Witch Hazel stands at 15-20 feet when fully grown and uniquely flowers in the fall, with tiny yellow blooms.
*Germination of 60-80%* Witch Hazel seeds will need a soak in water for 24 hours and requires a minimum of 120 days warm stratification, followed by 90 days of cold stratification to germinate. Plant seeds in Spring for growth the following Spring.
