Sapphire Dragon Tree Seeds

(Paulownia fortunei) Perennial. Zones 7 - 10. (Can be grown as an annual outside this range) 

Native range—China. Sapphire Dragon Tree is valued for both its ornamental beauty and useful timber. Can grow 20 feet per year, maturing at 50-75 feet. Profuse Spring blooms that resemble large foxgloves. Straight grain, rot resistant wood has many uses. 

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

SEED PRETREATMENT: No seed pre-treatment is required.

STRATIFICATION: No stratification period is required.

SEEDING: Sow seeds on the soil surface, tamp down gently. Seeds require light to germinate—provide at least 8 hours of light, followed by darkness at night. Seeds germinate best in a humid environment, placing a plastic dome or sheet of glass over the growing container can help create this. Alternating soil temperatures during the day (30°C) and night (20°C) can be beneficial until germination. Water evenly and regularly. 

GERMINATION: Generally occurs in 30 days. Tiny seeds may result in dense germination, if this is the case, thin seedlings to promote stronger growth.
