Redbud Seeds - Mediterranean

(Cercis siliquastrum) Perennial. Zones 6—9.

Fabaceae (Pea) Family. Native range—Eastern Mediterranean. Also know as Judas Tree, boasts the largest blooms among redbud varieties. Most often used variety for growing rootstock. Can grow 15-25 feet tall. Dynamic foliage colour. Blooms early Spring. 

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

SEED PRETREATMENT: Soak seeds for 24 hours, start with hot tap water. Repeat process for another 24 hours if seeds haven’t swelled/fully imbibed. 

STRATIFICATION: Uniquely, no stratification period is needed for Mediterranean Redbud.

SEEDING: Sow soaked seeds 1/4” deep. Seeds prefer soil temperatures between 15-21°C to germinate. Water evenly and regularly. 

GERMINATION: When all previously mentioned requirements are fulfilled, germination generally occurs in 30-45 days.
