Purple-flowered Dittany, also known as Rubra Gas Plant or Burning Bush, is a lovely flowering perennial with lemony scented glossy leaves. Plants can grow 2-4 feet tall. Patience is needed when growing these plants, as they are slow to mature, taking a couple years before they flower. But, once established, they’ll bring carefree beauty year after year to your garden. Elegant pink blooms with bright fuschia stripes. Flowers and leaves may cause skin irritations, use caution when handling. Many medicinal uses.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
For best results, sow seeds outdoors in Fall. If starting indoors…
SEED PRETREATMENT: Soak seeds in water for 24 hours. Mix seeds with moist soil 4x seed volume. Place in a plastic bag.
STRATIFICATION: 90 days cold/moist (5°C), in your fridge is a good spot for this. Inspect periodically for even moisture and early germination.
POST-STRATIFICATION: Sow stratified seeds ¼” deep, tamp down gently. Keep soil moist until germination.
GERMINATION: Slow and erratic, germination occurs over the course of 1-6 months.
