Bean Seeds, Bush - Roma II
(Phaseolus vulgaris) 55 days.
A wonderful, highly productive bean for small spaces! Roma II is a bush variety of the age old, and world renowned Romano Pole Bean. Roma II brings the same fully flavoured, flat beans but only grows to 2 feet in height. Beans themselves are between 6-7 inches long.
--------------------------------
Growth Habit: Bush Bean, compact 24 inch plants
Sun Requirements: Best in Full Sun
Soil Preference: Rich, well draining garden soil (balanced pH)
When to Plant: Beans are frost sensitive & should be planted after the last expected frost. Cooler soil temperatures can hinder germination.
How to Plant: Soak bean seeds over night to quicken germination. Hoe out a shallow furrow, 1 inch deep. Space bean seeds every 2 inches. Cover seeds with soil & tamp down soil to improve contact with seeds. (Tamping also creates a trough that catches water, delivering it straight to the seeds!) Water thoroughly after planting.
When to Harvest: Ready when beans are around 6 - 7 inches long & still tender smooth to the touch.
How to Harvest: Pick often to encouraged production, but also replant every three weeks for continual harvest.
