Golden Chain Tree Seeds

(Laburnum anagyroides vulgare) Perennial. Zones 5 - 7.

Golden Chain tree is a beautiful tree, with long wisteria-like yellow flowers that present in late Spring, followed by long stringy pods. Flowers of Laburnum anagyroides vulgare are 4-8 inches long. Laburnum is commonly used in garden pergolas to form luxurious floral passage ways.

SEED PRETREATMENT: Seeds require scarification—be careful to not damage the inside of the seeds. Place seed on its side, gently pierce the seed coat with the tip of a pin, or gently sand the seed coat with fine sandpaper. Soak scarified seeds in hot tap water for 24 hours.

STRATIFICATION: No stratification period is required.

SEEDING: Sow soaked seeds 1/4” deep, ideally in a peat/perlite mix. Water evenly and regularly. Alternate soil temperatures during the day (30°C) and night (20°C).

GERMINATION: When all previously mentioned requirements are fulfilled, germination generally occurs in 15-30 days.
