Maple Tree Seeds - Korean

 (Acer pseudo-sieboldianum) Perennial. Zones 4 - 9.

Native range—Northeastern China. Korea. Very cold hardy and compact. Leaves can change to vibrant colours in the Fall—green, red, orange and yellow. A beautiful centerpiece, putting on a yearly show. Mature trees grow to 15-20 feet.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS ** Difficult

For best results sow seeds outdoors in Fall.  If sowing indoors…

SEED PRETREATMENT: Soak seeds for 48 hours, start with hot tap water. Replace water after 24 hours. After soaking, mix seeds with a moistened grow medium equal to 3-4 times seed volume. Place in a plastic bag, covered tray/cells or container.

STRATIFICATION: 90 days cold/moist (5°C). Place plastic bag with seeds and soil in your refrigerator, preferably in a veggie crisper. Inspect periodically for even moisture/germination.

POST-STRATIFICATION: Sow stratified seeds 1/4” deep. Seeds prefer soil temperatures of 10-15°C for germination. 

GERMINATION: When all previously mentioned requirements are fulfilled, germination generally occurs in 90-180 days.
