Grandiflora Nicotiana is one of the most fragrant flowers you’ll plant in your garden this summer. It has white, starry shaped blooms that glimmer at dusk, right as its sweet-jasmine scent is at its peak. Growth Habit: Upright growth to 5 feet height, with a tall stem, 12-18” long leaves, and sprays of 4” tubular flowers. Flowers open at dusk or on overcast days. Self seeding. 

Sun Requirements: Full sun to part shade

Soil Preference: Average, well drained soil

When to Plant: Direct seed after last frost date OR start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date. 

How to Plant:  

Direct sow: sow seeds on soil surface after the last frost. Cover only lightly with soil as seeds need light to germinate. Seeds should germinate in 21-28 days. Thin young plants to 1 foot apart. 

Transplant: sow seeds on soil surface and cover only very lightly with soil, as seeds need light to germinate.  Seeds should germinate in 21-28 days. Harden off and transplant after the risk of frost has passed. Space plants 1 foot apart. 

When / How to Harvest: Harvest flowers when nearly fully open through Summer and into Fall. Harvest and deadhead regularly for continuous blooms. 

Uses: Nicotiana is a lovely cut flower. Flowers are attractive to pollinators, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
