Strawberry Plants- Albion
(Fragaria ananassa 'Albion') Perennial. Zone 3b. Everbearing.
Albion strawberries are big, extra sweet and when once they start in early Summer, they keep on coming! The heaviest part of your harvest will be in August and September, but you'll be enjoying backyard strawberries until frost.
Albion is an everbearing, or "day-neutral" strawberry. This means that the plant doesn't slow its growth as the seasons change and sunlight lessens. They will continue to flower, fruit and produce steamers even into the Fall.
Although resistant to many strawberry diseases (verticillium wilt, phytophthora crown rot, anthracnose crown rot), Albion is susceptible to Red Stele disease.
Red Stele Disease, also know as Lanarkshire Disease, is a fungal disease that affects strawberry plants. It can be brought about when strawberries are grown in heavy, saturated clay soils and when conditions are particularly wet and cool. In order to deter this disease, please plant your strawberry plants in well draining soil.
