It pays to have a plan when you grow Black Jewel raspberries: What are you going to do with all those berries?!
Black Jewel raspberry canes grow extremely quickly and yield massive amounts of large, black raspberries. These exceptional berries all ripen at the same time; early to mid-summer, so be ready for their abundance!
Black Jewel will begin fruiting in their second year after planting, so you do have some time to come up with all sorts of raspberry ideas. Here's what we've com up with: You're going to eat, freeze, bottle, dry and share these fabulous, tasty raspberries!
*Black raspberry varieties are more susceptible to viral diseases than red and yellow raspberries. We advise planting them at least 25-30 metres away to deter the potential spread of illnesses.*
** To regenerate your raspberry patch, and to keep it under control, cut it down to about 8 inches tall, after the Fall harvest. We also recommend trimming/mowing the borders of the blackberry patch regularly to prevent unwanted runners.**
