Hardy Rubber Tree Seeds
(Eucommia ulmoides) Deciduous. Zones 5-7. An ornamental shade tree with more subtle appearance, the Hardy Rubber Tree is handsome and dependable. It tolerates most soils, even highly alkaline, is not susceptible to insect damage, and its leaves stay green and glossy even in drought condition.
The Hardy Rubber Tree has low upright branches, a narrow shape and a round spreading crown, which makes it a wonderful choice for tight spaces such as an urban backyard or small homestead that could use a little shade or low maintenance landscaping. It is slow growing but can reach up to 60 feet at maturity!
Native to central China, the Hardy Rubber Tree has been used for over 2,000 years as traditional folk medicine and food. It gets its name from the latex-like sap that can be extracted from the leaves and the wood and made into rubber. Just tear a leaf or break a twig to feel the sticky sap.
**40-60% germination**. Hardy Rubber Tree requires 90 days cold moist stratification.
