Currant Plants, Pink - Champagne

(Ribes nigrum) Deciduous. Zones 3-5.

Champagne Pink is actually a red currant cultivar grown mostly for its delicious, sweet fruit. It is nice and compact at only 4 feet high. The gorgeous translucent fruit has colourless skin and pink flesh - the hanging clusters practically glow!

With large, sweet berries, Champagne Pink is better than all the other currants for fresh eating. Still, most people prefer to use currants to make jelly or juice. The fruit ripens in July.

Champagne Pink Currant grows best in full sun or part shade with moist but well-drained clay loam. Pruning is important, and shoots older than 3 years should be removed to keep the delicious fruit coming!
