Currant Plants, Black - Titania
(Ribes nigrum) Deciduous. Zones 3-5.
Titania is a mid season cultivar that produces a reliable crop of large, firm black currant berries. This compact shrub is fast growing, and super productive! Titania is pollinated by bees, but will produce an even larger crop with a different black currant nearby.
Titania Black Currant berries are a matte black-brown colour and produce a rich, deeply flavoured juice. Black currants are popular in Europe for their characteristic flavour and fragrance - commonly used to make cassis wine and jam. Titania fruit is easy to pick and stores very well for several months.
Currant grows best in full sun or part shade with moist but well-drained clay loam. Pruning is important, and shoots older than 3 years should be removed to keep the delicious fruit coming!
