Rhododendron Seeds, Carolina

(Rhododendron carolinianum pink/purple) Evergreen. Zones 4-8.

Carolina Rhododendron is a delight in Spring, with gorgeous, abundant blooms ranging in colour from pale lilac rose to pastel pink. It's dark, leathery evergreen foliage provides beautiful contrast, and is attractive all winter.

Rhododendron flowers are popular with pollinators and ruby-throated hummingbirds love to sip nectar and dance around the bell-shaped clusters. The flowers are mildly fragrant and the leaves aromatic when crushed.

When planted in groups, Carolina Rhododendron makes quite an impression! It is a bit particular about its environment, and best grown in acidic, organically rich, medium moisture but well-drained soil in part shade. It performs well under high canopies and naturalized woodland garden in dappled shade. Given the right environment, it will thrive!
