Lace Flower Seeds - White Finch

(Orlaya grandiflora) Annual. 70 days to maturity. 

The lacy white umbrels, rigid stems, and long vase life make White Finch a perfect cut flower! Its flowers will bring pollinators to the garden in Summer and can tolerate cooler temperatures in the fall. Also known as White Finch Orlaya.

Growth Habit: Upright, branching growth to 3 feet, with fern-like foliage, sturdy stems, and delicate 3” umbrels made up of hundreds of tiny star shaped flower. 

Sun Requirements: Full sun to part shade

Soil Preference: Sandy, well-drained soil

Stratification: Place seeds in the fridge for two weeks before planting.

When to Plant: Sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost OR direct seed outdoors after last frost.

How to Plant:  

Direct sow:  Place seeds in the fridge for two weeks before planting. Barely cover seeds with soil after last frost in Spring. Thin young plants to 1 foot apart. 

Transplant: Place seeds in the fridge for two weeks before planting. Barely cover seeds with soil. Transplant out after risk of frost. Take care not to overly disturb delicate roots when transplanting. Space young plants 1 foot apart.  

When / How to Harvest: Harvest for two months in Summer when three quarters of the flowers on the umbrel are opened. Harvest flowers regularly for longer bloom time.

Uses: Lace flower is an elegant cut flower with sturdy stems and long vase life.
